My background

Viivi Wallgren, Child and adolescent psychologist, Paris, France
A third-culture kid

I am a citizen of the world with roots laid down in the city of Paris. My journey to child and adolescent psychologist began at 14 years old when I decided this was how I wished to contribute to society.

I always wanted to work with children and took a special interest in psychology as my curiosity for our human differences and similarities peaked during my time at international schools.

I am from Finland but have lived abroad most of my life within the international communities around the world. I am, by definition, a third culture kid and therefore wished to work closely with this community. I have personal experiences that may be familiar to the children whose lives are on the move.

Languages

I speak English, Finnish, Swedish and French fluently and can provide therapy in all four languages. Language is an important factor in therapy and our emotional language carries great importance in successful counseling. Being able to communicate in the language that we are most comfortable in, allows for a sense of ease and an assurance that we will be understood as we have intended.

Experience

Before becoming a psychologist I worked with children in various settings; home, school and summer camps. This  allowed me to cultivate a way to speak to children in more than a purely clinical form. Being able to connect to a child on their level makes working with them much more effective.

Being able to communicate in the language that we are most comfortable in, allows for a sense of ease and an assurance that we will be understood as we have intended.

Psychology

I completed a Bachelor of Psychology at Leiden University in The Netherlands and a Masters in Child and Adolescent Cognitive and Social Developmental Psychology at Université de Paris Descartes (V). I have experience working in educational, clinical and private settings. I am trained in various counseling techniques as well as completing psychological evaluations through the use of cognitive and projective tests.

I take an integrative approach to my counseling. Psychological therapy is not “one size fits all”; individuals are unique and benefit most from a tailored approach.
